Not particularly really, the same analogy as film. What made 35mm usable for more than snapshots kept the quality gap between 35mm and medium format when those same improvements were applied to medium format. The same will be true of FF digital cameras vs APS-C the larger format will gain from the improvements but still offer higher pixel counts. I also expect that high ISO performance at equal Pixel counts will still give the edge to FF and MF digital cameras, and I expect to sensor costs to fall as manufacturing techniques improve.

Good news on both counts. I've been hoping that they'd focus on the APS-C technology, rather than aiming for a market in which they'd never be competitive. Furthermore, sticking with APS-C is the best way to support those of us who've invested heavily in their new lenses and cameras.

The gist - 645 is not dead, just suspended. Pentax is aiming to produce FF quality from a APS-C sized sensor, perhaps already in the spring.

You get further with a kind word and a gun, than with a kind word alone.
