Ann told me she has a collapsible chest pod she can use, though I suspect it's sized for looking into a viewfinder, which makes the LCD hard to see.

no. It is actually a mini tripod with a ball head... - it can swing around in a lot of positions ...

I only took the shot without this gizmo (or other means of support) at Union Square because I went out without the spare parts... However, it worked pretty well I think.

What I have that also works pretty well is the top of my Cullmann tripod... it has a ball socket -

Another alternative that doesn't take up any space is the old 1/4 20 threaded eye-bolt with six feet of string attached. Stand on the string and lift lightly against it while you shoot, with both hands.

Lots of gear, not much time

lol - if I tried that I'd land on my ass in no time...

The art of holding a small camera steady is this - the downward force on the shutter button needs to be cancelled out by an equal upwards force against
the bottom of the camera. So, hold the camera in a pincer grip with your
thumb pressing the camera bottom upwards. Don't be tempted to shoot
one-handed .

See the instant improvement.

Incidentally, the really nice thing about the old ME-II winder was that the shutter release was a mostly horizontal squeeze against the grip, and not a downward press across the optical axis. ME Super shots were always sharper
with the winder attached.

Truthfully, I have trouble holding ANY camera steady... If any of my photos are truly sharpt it is because I used a tripod or was shooting at at least 1/250 a sec or was bracing myself on something and holding my breath. I never shot with anything slower than 400 (tri-x) in BW and when I shot 64 ASA/ISO color , all the hand held stuff
was with a 50 or 28 mm lens and where there was lots of light.

I can manage about 1/160th and sometimes 1/125 hand held - but not much below that.

thanks for all the ideas, though.
