I wish my cellphone LCD was as visible as the one on the Optios.

I was just kidding about not being able to see what's on the screen, as I noted.

I much prefer a screen to a P&S viewfinder, as viewfinders tend to be pretty inaccurate. They crop a lot of your final image, and they don't work too well for very close subjects (especially macro). Essentially, you don't see everything the lens sees.

What about viewfinders appeals to you? I'm genuinely curious.

John

Well, aside from being used to looking through one for 40 years.... On the canon powershot a80 I've had for 4 years,
the view finder is pretty damn good.
but several reasons include using less battery power, being able to keep the camera more steady, and you can see through it no matter what the light is... I usually frame photos in the viewfinder a bit less tight than I want the final photo to be... so I am seeing all of my
composition, as it were.
What I like about the LCD screen on the darkside P&S was that you could rotate it.. THEN it is particularly good for macro work, and I used it that way. (I'm thinkin macro at ground level on a short tripod, e.g.)

One thing about digital and over shooting is that just in terms of seeing and framing you can so easily chimp to
check that stuff....
also, note Peter's comment that i happened to glance at before replying to this about the quality of them.
