Subject: where to buy paper? (my R2880 has arrived!)
Hello All,
My printer (R2880) just arrived on Friday.
Kudos to B&H for their flexibility: I was able to purchase it and
to schedule when it should be shipped out (so that UPS doesn't try
to deliver it while I am out of town).
The outer box is (w)holly: UPS made two large holes (two my fists
comfortably fit through one of them), but I am hoping that the
printers does not have any concealed damages. (What doesn't stop
amasing me is how indifferent and unconcerned many UPS delivery drivers
are: in this case, he showed no concern about the holes when I pointed
them out to him. - For him, it was just a normal routine thing.)
Anyway, I would like to test it in action.
Being overwhelmed with many other things, I didn't have time to think
about ordering paper (and I was foolishly hoping to see some samplers in
coming with the printer). I read the advise Godfrey, Paul, and Adam gave
to
Christine about various types of paper.
1. So, my question is - what are the good places to buy those types
of paper (price- and otherwise)?
I saw Godfrey mentioning atlex.com for the inks. Is it as good for
papers? Any other places?
Atlex sell paper & ink among a few other things. They're the only one I've
been using for several years. Cheap & very good service.
And a few more practical questions:
2. If I were to buy the size larger then the intended print, -
Is it better to cut it before or after printing?
No.
2a. Do Epson printers work ok if you send the same piece of paper
through it more than once? (e.g. if some empty space was left, -
and you want to print on it)
Yes
I've seen some combination of laser printers+paper where such thing
would cause a jam because the paper would become different (drier?)
after the first run through the printer.
3. Does the rating Epson makes (3*, 4*, 5*) for their various types of
paper reasonably reflect the quality of the paper?
4. This is probably a stupid question, but I am somewhat confused.
What is the "luster" type of paper surface? I've seen it many times on the
price-lists, but have never tried it, and have a rather vague idea (and
I am not sure if it is correct) - how it looks.
Shiny
5. What type of finish is "satin" (in "Ilford Photo Satin" and "Epson
Premium Canvas - Satin" papers)?
6. Has anybody had any experience (positive or negative) with
Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper - Matte ?
Yes. Works very well with the right image
7. Would you recommend any photo paper suitable for printing with R2880
on both sides? What I have in mind is making some personalized greating
cards.
Thanks in advance,
Igor
