Hello All,
My printer (R2880) just arrived on Friday.
Kudos to B&H for their flexibility: I was able to purchase it and
to schedule when it should be shipped out (so that UPS doesn't try
to deliver it while I am out of town).
The outer box is (w)holly: UPS made two large holes (two my fists
comfortably fit through one of them), but I am hoping that the
printers does not have any concealed damages. (What doesn't stop
amasing me is how indifferent and unconcerned many UPS delivery drivers
are: in this case, he showed no concern about the holes when I pointed
them out to him. - For him, it was just a normal routine thing.)
My experience with UPS is it only takes a credible threat of violence to
get their attention.
UPS once lost a 30 year old guitar I was shipping across country to the
manufacturer in Santa Anna, CA for a neck reset and some other minor
repairs. It should have arrived there from NC in 4 days. It did not.
I endured 8 weeks of frustration at UPS's indifference before losing my
temper and dragging the local hub manager across a customer service
counter to express my dissatisfaction with his fecklessness.
That was, admittedly, before the days of on-line order tracking, but I
got a phone call within 24 hours to inform me they had located my
missing shipment ... and it finally arrived in CA 48 hours later.
When the manufacture shipped it back, it only took 3 days coming east.
Musta' been a tail-wind or something. ;-D
As far as paper goes, I'd go to Staples or Office Depot & pick up the
smallest (least number of sheets) package of 13x19 Epson paper they
carry to check out the mechanical action of the printer soonest.
Find out if there's any concealed damage before worrying about what's
the best paper surface to print on.
You want to find this out like yesterday, 'cause the longer it takes,
the bigger assholes UPS are going to be to deal with if there is
concealed damage.
