I think that's the key. "Current taste" ...

I see a lot of hoo hah fads about ultrawides and then I see a lot of awful ultrawide pictures. And then the same thing for ultra- telephotos. And then I see beautiful work done with lenses from ultrawides, to normals, to telephotos from people who could give a toss about the fads.

So whatever is pushing your buttons and making the kind of photos you want, just go with it and forget the fads. Work with whatever FoV complements your vision and lets your photos speak for you.

I've been working with a normal FoV lens almost exclusively for months, with a few dalliances with long and wide. Right now I'm tending to normal and slightly tele. Other times I've tended to wide and wider. Makes no difference, the photos are what matter. All the FoV options I need are available. What I have in my bag is what's important.
