You are going to love the 50 1.4 for this event, especially because
you have some flexibility of where you stand during the matches. I
currently cover jv and varsity hockey (my husband is the coach), and I
used to be the yearbook advisor and was responsible for taking a lot
of high school sports. You will not want to use flash for this, even
if you are permitted. That is where the new lens is really going to
help you out...

Take the 28-80, just in case you can't get as close as you would like.
Also, take plenty of media...when you are there you don't want to
worry about running out of room. Finally, just relax and have fun.
Shooting events like senior night are really exciting and a lot of fun!
