Godfrey and Adam,
I suppose the problem I have with the new 15 Limited is the f4 max aperture.
I don't know what the image quality is, but you're talking zoom speeds.
Is this really preferable to one of the wide Pentax zooms? How much preferable?
I've never been satisfied with f4 aperture lenses...

I'm not a big fan of them, but at the same time I got used to it when shooting medium format. I have both the A15/3.5 and the DA14/2.8. Both are pigs, the 14 is not smaller than the old 15mm by any significant amount, though the 14 is much lighter. None of the Limited lenses are real speed demons, and the DA Limiteds are all pretty much close to (fast) zoom speeds anyway. The trend at Pentax with the Limited lenses seems to be towards compact and easy to carry high image quality lenses, and for this, a fat maximum aperture, especially on short focal lengths seems to be a problem. I expect if they were going to make the 15mm Limited faster, they would have ended up with a metal bodied DA14/2.8, which is not compact and easy to carry, so they make an F4 maximum aperture, and get the size (and possible the cost) of the lens down to something more manageable. I don't really think it's going to matter much if it's a better lens than the 16-50 (though from the complaints that continue to pour in about that fiasco of a lens it can hardly be worse), it is going to appeal to people who want smaller prime lenses rather than fat zooms. I'm quite confident once the 15 has been out for a while, and presuming it gets a favourable response from the users, that I'll sell my DA14 in favour of the 15. I can live with the f4 maximum aperture to get the compactness of the Limited lens.
