Hi Marnie, I don't know if it conveys the reportage part you mentioned, but I like the image as a photograph, without knowing the story behind.
I like where elements are positioned, the fact that at first if looks just like a rusty car, then you discover a tent, and then you see a person that gives you a mild element of surprise. The fence is also a nice touch, kind of isolating the guy from the rest of the world, and to hint that there might a chance that this person is not camping for fun.
