To me, the *first* point of releasing a 645D camera is to support the
users of Pentax 645 and 6x7 equipment who already have nearly all the
lenses they need and simply want a digital capture body to use them
with. Unlike Mamiya, Hasselblad, Bronica and other medium format
users, who can utilize a digital back with their existing kit, Pentax
645 and 6x7 users must have a new body to utilize their lenses.
For instance, I have the P645 and two lenses, 45 and 75 mm. Yes,
they'll both be a little less FoV on a slightly smaller format, but
then again I'll be able to USE them! Others, who have a much broader
selection of lenses, will obtain. 6x7 users, well, the situation is
quite so nice as they'll need both an adapter and will have a far more
drastic reduction in FoV, but then again, they're be able to USE their
lens investment.
After that, develop new lenses, etc, as required by the market demand.
And in all cases, SUPPORT the equipment.
This is the commitment I'd appreciate from Pentax with regards to
their medium format, professional user community. A $10,000 body is
not out of sight for professional users.
Unless they just want to forget that community and move on to "hello
kitty" pink K2000s. ... !
