My organizational needs are different between film and digital. I
don't edit the files the same way, I can't usually organize film scans

me since I might have scanned a half-dozen rolls of varying vintage
that day (Among other things, I'm rescanning my archives). So using
the same folder heirarchy makes little sense to me.
Why?
The way I put things in the directory structure reflects the day I
import them, enter them into my photo management system in other
words. If the files are from some other day, the datestamp I use on
their names reflect when they're from. You can also set their creation
date in metadata from within LR.
But if I wanted to manage them differently, fine: Just put them where
I want them and import them.
You just don't like LR and are fabricating rationale against it.
Nothing wrong with that. Don't use it.
