I have to agree with Godfrey here. Your "reasons" for disliking it
appear to be partly based on inaccurate statements about Lightroom.

I use Lightroom entirely with my own hierarchical file organisation.
While adding keywords is on my "to do" list, I still haven't got
round to it. Despite that, I find Lightroom to be no worse than
any other program when it comes to browsing my image folders. And,
just occasionally, I find some extra little features (like being
able to limit searches by date range and lens type) to be useful.

I'm not bothered by the fact that Lightroom has to import/catalog/
whatever any image it works on. And even on my rather underpowered
six-year-old notebook (1GB RAM, slowish hard drive) synchronising
image folders doesn't take an unreasonable amount of time. For a
quick-and-dirty image fix I've got other options. But if I want
the benefits of Lightroom I'm prepared to live with that worldview.
