You might consider a crop right down the middle of his nose, and across at the lowermost edge of his lip. ?That would give more emphasis to the eye and the half-smile, which is where the power of the shot is.
I don't know why, but for some reason that reminded me of a scene from an old movie "The Magic Christian".
