I use AVG I think it's up to version 8.5. Free for personal use. There may be better packages out there now, but hell, it's free.

Thanks Mike and others. I will try to learn this new system slowly. So
far it is working pretty good. At least it works!
I made a print from a file that had been corrected and it came out
pretty close to the screen, especially after the print had a few hours
to dry and stabilize.
BTW, are there any recommendations out there for good virus software?
I deleted Norton as soon as I fired up the computer the forst time and
then turned on the Vista Firewall. It still reminds me that I have no
anti-virus software.

My old desktop PC went brain dead so I got a new PC tower unit only.
Fortunately I was able to put the SATA drive from the old one into the
new one and after transferring just a few files I reformatted it and
now have a extra internal drive.
I kept the old 17" crt monitor and therin lies my query. I am assuming
that all the data used when I calibrated the monitor on the old
computer has all gone bye bye. It must because the images now look
much better all of a sudden. I haven't printed any photo's yet, so I
have to do that to see how far out it is (or how close it may be if
I'm lucky!).

BTW, Vista sucks!!!
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services
You can turn off a whole world of pain in there....
