I still get the willies, fifteen years later, thinking about the roundabout at the Arc de Triomphe ... if I recall correctly, it was eight lanes wide and thirteen different roads met there, at least three of them major, major roads, like l'Etoile on both sides.

A few years ago (20 or so) I was in Paris getting ready for a randoneur event - 5 or 6 of us rode our bikes from the hostel to some local bike shops, partly to buy stuff, partly just because. Rode around the Arc de Triomphe coming and going. Not rush hour, but still interesting sport. Better on a bike than a car though, get more respect from the drivers.
