Does anyone here have any pros or cons on that decision?

I guess alot depends on the type of photography you're doing. I use a Kirk King Cobra head with my 600mm FA and can't imagine using this lens without it.

Before I got that lens I didn't have anything nearly capable of handling the weight & decided on the gimball head as onbe that could do any kind of photography I'd try with the 600.

Spend the bucks on a gimbal mount head. I've made the decision to do
that myself. I'm tired of fighting with ball heads and 3 way heads
with my 300 ƒ2.8. For images of stationary items I use a geared head,
but for birds, planes, and running dogs I think a gimbal head will be
best.

Does anyone here have any pros or cons on that decision?

Unfortunately, the head on it isn't so wonderful. It's off a $60
vivitar tripod I picked up some years back and is neither particularly
sturdy, nor particularly easy to use. I think I see a trip to San Jose
Camera in my near future to pick up a Manfrotto ball head.

I couldn't remember most of what I know today
if it weren't for others sharing their knowledge
of my past on the Internet. Thank you…
