I know nothing about how Wordpress operates but the blog software I use (Blognow - an Australian blogging service) allows the URL of an image to be insered into the blog text so that it displys in-line in the blog, just like in your example. I'd be surprised if something similar wasn't available in Wordpress. I've been thinking about trying out Wordpress so I might just do that....
