The HDTV hardware is cheap, the service is what's costly.
I spent only $2500 on my hdtv hardware stuff 5 years ago, but
in the same 5 years I spent over $6000 on
my CATV/SAT bills and those will continue on forever....

I have the same problem with switching from SD television to HD 
television.  After replacing the TV, I've got to recable, replace the 
A/V distribution gear, and even replace some furniture.  So that US$ 800

TV will end up costing me several thousand.
