NO! I did not mis-type. The 222 Pistol Grip Ball Head also has a quick release plate, and the Ball Head release lever is vertical, so you can use it with either hand, and have the lever facing any way round to your most comfortable position. The 322 has a horizontal grip and lever which
seem like it would be restricting, unless it swivels so the left hand
fingers can squeeze the trigger.

The 222 Joystick Ball Head has a load capacity of 2.5 kg.

The 322 Grip Action Head has a load capacity of 5.0 kg.

2.5 kg is not going to be enough, I don't think.

Load capacity is rated by how much weight it will hold in position when seriously tilted. I had my K20D with loaded BG-2 holding a DA* 60-250 using the lens' tripod collar out tonight shooting active dogs, and never had a problem. The lens is 2.71 lbs. The body is 751 g, the two batteries and the BG2 Grip probably weigh in at at least equal of that, probably more. So let's say 5 lbs to err on the low side. No problem. My digital scale says 5.4 lbs total., but that's at it's low end, and may be incorrect.

Another accessory that I have permanently attached to mine is the
adjustable 361 Shoulder Brace for Monopods, which can be locked down
against the leg when not in use. It goes between the monopod screw and
the head, and free swivels 360 degrees, locking when you put it up to
your shoulder. It's all plastic, but mine has been on the monopod for 17
years and hasn't broken yet. It's something you'll only use
occasionally when you need that extra bracing.

That certainly looks like a good idea. Though the 'lighter and simpler
than a tripod' part might not be doing so well. :)

The whole shoulder rig probably weighs less than 1/3 pound (5 oz)

With the 222 head and the 361 shoulder brace, you won't have to use your
teeth. Except for chompin' on a wurst.

Manual focus lens -- one hand to focus, one hand to brace/tilt/etc. the
monopod and head, one hand to trigger the shutter; that's going to get
complicated.

Not if you tape the wired remote release to the tripod head lever. Besides, I was zooming and shooting today without problems. But I did have the 60-250 tripod collar not quite locked, allowing me to keep the camera level or vertical whilst moving the whole rig around underneath it. (Didn't use the brace, it's too low when sitting, as I was) Zooming and focusing is easy when the weight of the camera is held for you. Right hand runs the camera, left hand runs the lens. Try it, you'll like it!
