Brendan,

I remember asking the same question here a while ago, and getting
frustrated because nobody here seemed to have used anything like that,
while I'd seen it being used, and everybody was insisting that I don't
need it (pretty much like in your case).

The first time I heard about this protection spray was when I ordered
a few prints on watercolor and canvas paper at the local professional
lab around 2004 (It was a 60"-wide roll-paper printer).
They recommended it as a protection against fading (from the direct UV
exposure) and against moisture penetration, if I remember correctly.

About 2 years ago, after unsuccessfully asking about it here, I called
that photo lab, and asked them. On one hand they told me that the inks
that they use have changed recently, and it is not as necessary anymore.
On another hand, after I insisted, they mentioned PremierArt Print Shield,
which I found here:
http://www.inkjetart.com/cart/protective-coatings-premierart-print-shield-c-823_824_825.html
I haven't tried it on my own, since I didn't do the prints I was
thinkging about, but I hope this will be helpful to you.

Cheers,

Igor
