This is not the best way to do large resizings.
If you can use an integer factor like 1/2 or 1/3
or 2:1 or 3:1 (in pixel width) then you get better
results by going direct from original to new size
and use the interval. Simple fractions work nearly
, but not quite as well as integers, like 1.5:1.

Someone gave me an upscaling "Action" for Photoshop 7 that worked by 
resizing +3% using bi-cubic sharper, then resizing another +3% using 
bi-cubic smoother.

It began by prompting you to input a number for how many repetitions you

wanted it to do.

It would take about 7 repetitions to increase size to 150%, and 12 
repetitions to double the size.

It seemed to give quite good results.
