I'm sorry, I don't care how smart their lawyer is, the clause following "In return for..." is a restriction. Hell a stiff letter from a lawyer on his own letter head to these people should send them packing with their tails between their legs. They want to see the inside of a courtroom even less than you do. (I happen to have a lawyer who'll do such things for me as a courtesy, so it costs me nothing and an occasional lunch hour, and he usually picks up the tab).

They provide the compensation:

That, however, reminds me Tom Sawyer's tactics of painting the
fence (from the famous Mark Twain's book).

The bottom line is that I don't want to go to court or anything like
that. Hence, I am serious considering if I should be going to the
event at all, despite that it's promising to be an interesting event.

I don't think you can assign rights legally without compensation. I don;t see where they compensate you in any fashion. You cannot simply give your rights away. That's accepted legal principal. This wouldn;t stand up in any court I know of. In fact taking someone to court on this would probably offend the judge and EBC would probably end up regreting the decision, you don't want to offend a judge.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or
drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn
fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a
free man any more than a dog.
