The rechargeable Pentax L-ion lasts far longer than any AAs. I keep a
set of non-rechargeable lithium AAs for backup, since they have a long
shelf life, but the standard batteries are the best deal for regular
use, both in the camera and in the grip.

Why wouldn't you guys, who have the grip, use AA-rechargeables with
it?
I thought it was a big advantage of the grip for the K-7.
Incindentally, after ~10 years of ownership, I just discovered that
contrary to what's written everywhere, AF-500 FTZ flash CAN work with
rechargeables AA-s. I am not sure how long they would last in it
though.

I was planning on ordering some clone batteries, but with two Pentax
batteries -- one in the camera and one in the grip-- I haven't been
able to exhaust them. I've tried: more than 1500 frames without
recharging. I carry four lithiums for backup, but haven't had to use
them.
