Not if you get in into MItchel Lama housing :-) I don't know what the
fair market rates are on the non controlled
apartments - my friend had been on a waiting list for ummm about 6 or 7
years... there is a cap on how much
tenants income is to be eligible - bottom and top. She's retired and her
husband is an academic... not yet
retired. They are paying $1655, including utilities - 2 bedrooms ,
yadahyadahydah... the Mitchel Lama stuff is now closed -- the rents on
the un subsidised apartments are about 20% lower than Manhattan. There
are deals still to be had, I think,
because the young up and comers are not so interested in being there...
She is in Island House, I think the oldest apartment building on the
island and on the second floor with a view of Manhattan
on one side and the old church on the other... she can't shut up about how
ecstatic she is to be back here after St. Louis
and in that apartment. It's really nice ... I expect to visit often...
