a good used turntable plus a USB audio interface will do much better (some interfaces can't handle the low level signal and bias of a turntable output, in which case something like a Rolls phono preamp or a used receiver with a good phono stage will be needed) FireWire audio interfaces are a step up, i use USB and am relatively happy; there are tools to make the whole thing easier, but you can get by with free software like GarageBand or Audacity

i have a big stash of vinyl, i love it and play it fairly often, usually on weekend mornings as the musical equivalent of slow food, but i don't think i can hear any difference in quality; i'll probably never get it all trans-coded to digital
