On 3/2/10, Tom C, discombobulated, unleashed:

>If people choose an Apple or an iPhone, fine. I have a iPod Touch and
>love it but would not give ATT a dime for an iPhone or their service.
>Based upon their (ATT) prior false advertising and no recourse
>policies, they would owe me a free iPhone before I'd use them again.

Over here the iPhone cell providers have opened up, we now have several
choices. I'v just moved from 02 back to Vodafone.

Over here Verizon just bought Altel ... not sure if that would be considered a "move"?

I can't remember when I first got a cell phone, probably in 1991-1992 after I got home from Desert Storm. I had a pager before then. Started with US Cellular who were bought by GTE.

There were huge gaps in their cell network, their service deteriorated and billing system made AT&T look good.

The only good thing GTE did was offer an odd cell phone that had a base station inside my house. Whenever I was within approximately 100 feet of the base station, it automatically switched over to my land line. Incoming calls would forward to my BellSouth phone number and I wouldn't use any of my minutes for those calls.

I switched to Altel some time in the late 90s when they discontinued that service.

In the US, moving from one provider to another is a pain because they all want to lock you into a contract for so many years.

I've already done my two years with Altel years ago so I don't have no steenkin' contract. Altel did seem to have the best network. I never had a gap in cell coverage with Altel.

And I guess with Verizon purchasing them the network coverage has gotten even better.

Besides all that, I feel the same way about AT&T that Tom C does. The devil will be wearing long-johns before I give them any of my money.
