Great, it's very easy to top and tail the clip, click on the time bar
at the top of the story board view and a cursor will appear. Move the
cursor to the point that you wish to create the "cut" then select
"Split" from the Clip menu up top (or CTRL-L). You can then click on
the "clips" that you no longer want and delete them.

To mute the sudio track select all the clips in the story board view
(CTLR-A) then right click on the audio track and select "mute", easy
;-)
