i'd try deleting the font caches; the Apple caches can be deleted by restarting with the shift key held down ("safe boot") then restarting again without the shift key held down

there are Adobe caches too, and it might save time to just try deleting them first; here's a quick reference to how to delete them; if you're not comfortable with the shell, you can manually delete the same files via the Finder; note that the instruction to restart your computer after deleting Adobe cache files is not correct -- just make sure no Adobe software is running while you do it
