Cheapness isn't the only criteria, as you find once you start shooting macro. Working distance from your subject, depth of field, field of view, degree of magnification & convenience in positioning are all big factors in getting more shots with less toil. A close-focusing lens on a telephoto zoom can have a ton of benefits. I decided to try the older Canon 240 and 450 models which are highly regarded and cheaper since fewer people know to look for them. First one arrived in the mail today. : )
