I would imagine the high end camera market (pro's, stinkin' wealthy amateurs) 
needs to be cultivated, a pedigree established and reasonable user history 
logged prior to a Pentax offering in that league.
Sony had the technology and name going in and, I'd guess, have yet to realize a 
profit in that relatively minor (for them) division.
Maybe a step progression starting with a 7D*, then adding a D700* (with 
increased MP count).
