Pentax's screwdrive DA lenses with QSF are BETTER than everybody
else's low-end lens-motor crap. They AF faster and allow full-time
manual focusing. Sure, Pentax needs SDM in the high-end stuff, but
sticking with screw-drive AF for the cheap stuff is a net win (and
allows Pentax to do the small Limited lenses)

Contrary to popular belief, lens motor AF is not necessarily better.
With smaller lenses screwdrive AF typically outperforms lens-motor AF.
With larger lenses the advantage of having a motor specifically
designed to handle that lens's needs wins out and lens motor becomes
an advantage.

Note I say this as someone who currently shoots 1 system that's
entirely lens-motor(Micro-4/3rds), 2 mixed systems (Nikon and Minolta)
and Pentax. The fastest AF'ing camera I own is my Maxxum 7 with a
screwdrive lens.

Now Pentax could take a page from Minolta and start putting bigger
motors in their cameras, a large part of the AF performance issue is
simply anemic AF motors.
