No question you’re right, John.
However...if you DO go to a crowded restaurant, be sure you or one of your table partners speaks the local language. Nothing worse a hassled waiter hates than having to figure out what the heck you’re saying, what you want to order, because you don’t speak the language fairly well...
ESPECIALLY in France!  :-)
