i max (infrequently) out at 16 GB; with a fast card, you should be able to get close to 30 MB/sec, which would mean you could download 30 GB in ~17 minutes; that wouldn't bother me too much -- i'd just get it started and do something else; it's often longer than that before i bother checking if the transfer is complete; the slower part for me is importing into Aperture; i'm wanting to find out if the Apple's GPU acceleration would make Aperture 3 faster than Lightroom 3 in this regard
to address your separate comment, Apple's reader works with cards larger than 32GB
