For me it has to be the value and durability. I was in the USAF stationed in South Korea in the early 1980's when I finally saved up enough to buy a SLR. I looked at all of them available at the BX and settled on a SuperProgram, SMC-A 28/2.8, and SMC-A 70-210/4. Price was certainly an issue then but I don't regret the decision at all - probably one of the best I ever made. I decided to go the AF route a couple of years ago because my family wanted to be enabled. (They were a little intimidated with the SP.) I sold the SP body for more than I purchased it for! I never has to do anything but replace batteries in that body. I'm now using a ZX-5n, SMC-FA 28-80/3.5-5.6, SMC-FA 80-320/4.5-5.6, Vivitar Series 1 AF 19-35/3.5-4.5, SMC-FA 50/1.4, Vivitar 100/3.5 Macro and a cheapo Phoenix ZBIF-92P flash. This is a pretty sweet setup (I know some will argue the lens, but it works for me - for now) which was put together at a reasonable price. I shudder to think what a similar N rig would have cost. I purchased the Vivitar lens based on recommendations and comments from the PDML. I wouldn't have known about those lens and the "bang for the buck" they provide without the PDML. I did attend a N School day in November. I have to admit that Pentax has nothing like that here in the States. I was astounded at the amount of information and quality of instruction. I honestly believe that Pentax could easily increase both market share and visibility if they could/would do something similar. _____________________________________________________________ - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
