Excellent under the circumstances.  Would it be worth doing some more
cropping? Perhaps turn it into a horizontal crop and lose most of the
dead tree.

Funny, that - I took it in a portrait orientation so it never occurred to me to crop it otherwise.

I prefer the original. The sense of height that the vertical execution lends is part of the story for me. The tighter crop also emphasizes the slight softness.
