Last year's World Fish Eating Championship came down to a playoff
between the favourite, Jock McClean from Fife in Scotland, and
Sweden's hope, Sven Svennson. Mclean, being ahead on percentages, had
the choice of fish and chose tench. Svennson wasn't expected to
perform well, as he'd had some tough-fought matches and had already
consumed well over his bodyweight in fish.

The contestants were eating fish for fish up to the count of eight,
when Mclean unexpectedly broke a tooth and was forced to retire.
However, the competition had taken its toll on Svennson, and he
struggled against rising nausea to down his ninth fish and take out
the championship.

The headline on the next morning's newspaper read,
"One tooth free for Fife, sick Sven ate nine tench".
