I wish I could do the same, but the slide is a harsh mistress and I seldom
succeed in getting that comfort. So I have some pictures ruined by not
enough 'cropping latitude' as you name it. For the same reason, now I hate
a 100% viewfinder. 95% or the like is much better, as it can save your
day.
I mean the habit to strictly compose in camera can turn into too tight
framing and an otherwise nice pic becomes a no-no. Example:
