Coming off of a 4 day "weekend". School is on fall break.

Shot my first wedding on Saturday. Backup for one of the first year students who got volunteered by her father. Couple had a photographer who backed out for some reason and they didn't have a budget to hire another photographer. Anyway, the little girl was in a jam and asked my instructor if someone could help her out. What the heck. I can use the experience.

The only problem I encountered was using the AF 540FGZ at the reception. It gives inconsistent exposure.

Seems like it's overly sensitive to battery voltage or something. I put a freshly charged set of NiMH AAs in it - Energizer 2100 mAh, brand new set of 4 I bought a couple of weeks ago - and it didn't want to function at all, but it worked OK with Energizer 2300 mAh and Duracell 2450 mAh.

I'd get over-flashed sometimes and under-flashed others shooting in the same room, same ceiling, same lens, same flash-subject distance. Finally ended up setting it to manual 1/8 power.

Spent the day Sunday at home doing laundry, and drove up to DC on Monday to shoot panaramas for another school assignment. Have to do either a 360 degree pano or a 180 degree double stack pano. Parked out in Lanconia and took the metro into the National Mall. Then got to shoot some other images I've had knocking around in my head.

Saw my first K-7 "in the wild" so to speak. Local independent camera dealer has a used one in the case asking $700. I didn't ask them to let me look at.

I was in there looking for an accessory hot-shoe (to work with my CyberSync) that wouldn't already be falling apart before I even take it out of the packaging. I think I found one. We'll see

I couldn't afford to buy the K-7 anyway. Maybe if I have time later and am back in Raleigh before someone else buys it, I'll take a look at it then. I'm actively resisting the idea of buying another camera body. I have to manage to do my work with the tools I already have for now. I've got other expenses to budget for.

Right now, it looks like whatever is the follow-on for the K-5 will be my next generation body.

... and I think I might have just found part of the problem with the AF 540FGZ just now, at least why it wouldn't work with the new batteries. I checked that brand new set of 2100 mAh Energizers and only one of them is rated at 2100 mAh, the other three are rated at 1300 mAh; printed right there on the batteries.

That's a rip-off pure and simple.
