I've old and big and heavy and very good Metz 40MZ-2 with old SCA module (I am not entirely sure if it is 3601 or 3701). Flash has its own light sensor whereas camera provides focal length, aperture, ISO value and approx distance (not sure about distance) to the flash. It worked wonders on my K10D and now on K-7.
