Unfortunately, the local media were on-hand for the event. So, they've got all the pictures and footage they need. Just my luck, huh?

I'm going to check up on any kind of possibly related recalls, though. Maybe there's something there.

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss. If your insurance won't cover it because
they say it was a mechanical defect, I would suggest seeking
compensation from the manufacturer.  If you have a local TV station
that has a consumer-protection segment, you could try to get them
involved. I'm sure they would appreciate your nice clear photographs
of the incident.
