I'm not sure how it started. I suspect it was something electrical,
though there's no way of knowing for sure. I did notice a little smoke
coming from under the hood when I got out of the car, but figured it was
just some oil burning off the manifold from when I put a little in it a
few days before. I thought it was odd and figured the oil would have
burned off already by then, but didn't give it a whole lot of thought.
Turns out I was right. It was odd.

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss. If your insurance won't cover it because
they say it was a mechanical defect, I would suggest seeking
compensation from the manufacturer. If you have a local TV station
that has a consumer-protection segment, you could try to get them
involved. I'm sure they would appreciate your nice clear photographs
of the incident.
