  Thank you, Ecke!

I ran a VIN search, and found out there's a flaw in the design of the power steering assist hose on my car -- which stands to reason, as I'd noticed the past few times I'd driven it that there was a slight whine whenever I made a hard turn.

Apparently, it's known to cause underhood fires like the one I had.

Now, it's a matter of finding what to do about it. I called an attorney friend of mine, but he doesn't work in that are of the law. So, I need to do a bit more research to find out where to go next.

Was any repair done to the car recently? Are you the original owner? Did you receive a recall notice? Take your Vehicle Identification Number to a Chrysler dealer and get copies of any recall notices.

If you're going to pursue this you need to preserve the remains.
Ideally, you should have a vehicle fire expert examine the vehicle, this will cost $100 to 250/hour.
Photograph the underhood remains. Do nut disturb the evidence.
It sounds like you may have a case here given the recalls on the car.
Be advised that without a vehicle for the manufacturer to examine, you have a tough road to hoe and in any event it will take time and effort on your part to see any return on your effort. If you pursue this legally, get a lawyer that handles product liability, ideally one who has handled identical cases, a web search should help you find one.

Good luck, I hope it pans out for you.

Thanks again.
