If you believe DxO the K20D has a slightly better sensor than the K-7.
The fact that the K-5 blows just about everything else away makes the
K-7 crap. But you know for most purposes the K20D is just fine. I
still keep the *ist-Ds handy for low light work.
Actually, I remember that there were a technical modification in the sensor
(more channel outputs to make it faster?) that people say that may have caused
some loss in performance in other areas.

There were, but that's my point really. The K-7 sensor is just an
improvement, in some ways on the K20D sensor, which garnered high praise
for general purpose photography. For some types of photography it's
awful. It doesn't work well for what Ralf does. Still that doesn't make
the sensor crap. I don't use Lightroom it won't install on my machine,
(and I'm cheap, should be obvious, I use Pentax don't ya know), I've
been converting my raw files using Pentax's Digital Camera Utility 4.0,
(much improved over every previous version), and if you're using Pentax
one of the best free utilities I've tried). When I do everything right,
my conversions are certianly acceptable. (batch mode leaves a bit to be
desired, but hell it's free and I haven't had to upgrade my hardware or
OS in quite some time). The sensor in the K-5 is just phenominal based
on the tests I've read and images I've been able to examin.it's just
about the best in it's class, but the sensor in the K-7 was the best
that Pentax could do at the time, the rest of the camera was just awsome
for it's price point.
