An interesting discussion. Without going detail nutty on my camera impressions and opinions, what I like most about the Pentax system was the quality of the lenses and its value for dollar. The thing that disappointed me most is the bodies. The *ist DS was a delightful if cheaply built camera. The K10D was far more competent but for whatever reason I never found it as nice in use as the *ist DS: it felt more awkward in my hands and was still somewhat noisy, clattery.
It seems each succeeding model (*ist DS2, *ist DL, K20D, K7, K-x etc etc through the odd naming sequence ...) advances unevenly both forwards and backwards on various fronts. This discontent with their body evolution, subtle discomfit with the K10D, was a good bit of why I stopped using Pentax gear and moved on to other gear. If I could advise Pentax to do one thing, that would be to slow down: produce fewer but higher quality bodies, both in build and imaging. Concentrate on making them right, consistent, and a step forward *on all fronts* with each release. I'm willing to spend a good bit of money on pro-grade bodies and pro-grade lenses. What I demand in exchange for that is consistent quality and well-developed designs. I don't need a half dozen unevenly developed cameras, I need one (and a backup) solid, reliable, well-thought-out camera that performs to expectations or beyond, without need of workarounds or complexity. In short, I want the damn camera to disappear and do what I need, what I tell it to, so I can get on with doing Photography. :-) ..."Equipment often gets in the way of Photography." ... -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
