Gunk. Atomic Symbol Gk. Bonds to everything, never really separates.
When you try to sell the object, it becomes Patina (Pi). Really just
an isotope of Gk: same number of protons, more $$$'s.

Just checked on my repair status at C.R.I.S. and I was amused/worried
by the entries in the field labeled "Equipment Condition". It's
clear that I don't baby my camera - I *use* it: "SCRATCHES; DINGS;
SCUFFS; BOTTOM CASING EDGES/CORNERS DINGED/WORN; GUNK UNDER BATTERY
DOOR & IN SCREWS ;SCUFFS AROUND FOCUS DRIVE RING"

Ouch! And that's with only a half-year of use. FWIW, I have no idea
what the "gunk" is.

Dirt, sweat & petroleum by-products mixed together.

Generic term for the sort of stuff you might find under your finger-nails
after working on your car.

Also the name of a hand cleaner.
