IMHO a lens hood that doesn't screw on is dangerous. There is a tendency to forget that the hood isn't a screw on and to unconsciously rely on the hood to "catch" when holding your camera by the lens (letting it slip through your hand). When the hood comes off in your hand and you are picking up your camera from the concrete below, you'll know what I mean.
