I am not entirely certain whether accepting SMS from abroad is free of charge in Israel. It might be so or might be not. Then of course it wouldn't be that big an issue as to receive a single SMS is not going to be too expensive anyway.

I still don't understand why do I need to identify myself in such a manner for Google. Everyone knows that you could buy a SIM card with few prepaid minutes and discard it two weeks later after you've done visiting the country... Locals can do the same as tourists too...

I think we're beating the dead beast of burden here as it has been said that this practice has been abandoned by Google anyway.
