From: Ann Sanfedele
My preferred work flow has been (and Id like to continue) loading the
RAW files to a folder named for the shooting date,
extracting jpgs which I save in the same folder. Then I look at a
slide show for possible things to work on, show, etc.

Id like to do that with the PEFs. Neither Elements 5.0 or Canon zoom
browser (of course not) will show me thumbs of
the RAW files. So when I"m looking to open files in Elements I can see
the jpg associated with the raw - the numbers are
kept the same... and easily browse and review the thumbs and pull out
the RAwS.

Do I need special software for this? Or is it part of The Pentax browse
or Lab and I'm just not seeing it?
If I have jpgs of all my raw files I can use anything I want to browse
'em...

Thanks,
ann

When you open a PEF file for the first time in Elements 5.0 does it first open it in Adobe Camera Raw?

There's a way to do batch saves from Camera Raw, and JPEG is one of the supported formats.

You should be able to select all of the PEF files in a directory and tell Windoze to "Open with Elements" or "Open with Adobe Camera Raw" and have Camera Raw open all of those PEF files.

With the PEF files open in Camera Raw, you "select all" and select "Save Images" (should be down on the lower left IIRC) and it will bring up a menu where you can tell it how and where to save them. It allows you to set the quality level of the JPEGs up to 10 Maximum.

You can do batch renaming at this point as well or keep the same file names with the new extension. The default is to keep the same file name.

Leaves the original file intact.
