The language used to describe the situation stunned me too. They are
quoting meteorologists who are calling the storm "epic." If we can just
hang on to the power, we'll get through this. The wind is amazing. Was
outside a while ago. The news showed downtown around 6:45p--a ghost
town--no one around, which is good; it allows police and streets and sans to
do their job. Cheers, Christine

Good Luck Christine(s). The Severe Storm Warning for Chicago on the
Weather Channel website warned that travel would become "downright
dangerous". It even warned against shoveling snow and getting a heart
attack. I've never seen language like that in a warning.

Christine,
Looks like big problems for the western suburbs of Chicago too.
I left the house at 1:30 for a 2 PM appointment in Naperville.
It was starting to snow lightly.
By 3 PM it was snowing, blowing, and miserable.
It took me an hour to get back home in bumper to bumper traffic - both
directions!
Now the wind is howling outside my window.
Both airports have closed, probably until Thursday.
Many offices closed early as well.
They mention the '67 storm as a model and that was a doozie.
Stay safe and take some pictures.
Regards, Bob S.

It was expected to start at 3p, but it started a half hour early. Schools
closed at 2p & they've already called a snow day for tomorrow. Last
snowday
in Chicago was 1999. We could get anywhere from 10 to 2 feet of snow.
Some
are claiming we're going to get 2-3 inches per hour. Worst time will be
9p
to 5am. Snowmobiles have been sent to the fire and police departments for
rescue capability. We're under a blizzard warning until tomorrow at 3p.
The
winds are really starting to pick up. I have a feeling the winds will be
the worst part of the storm; Lake Michigan waves are supposed to be
enormous--I won't be able to get down there to photograph them.
Since we have a snow day tomorrow, I'll be free to try for some pictures.
My big worry is power--sure hope it doesn't go out because I only have a
snort or two of scotch in the house. We're having brats and baked beans
for
dinner. May make some carrot cake. And a movie for sure.
Wish us luck! :-)
Big cheers, Christine from Chicago
