Yes one of the more striking images I've seen. The dust was pretty thick in there, I was starting to make my way back towards the office but had to stop for a few moments as I could hardly see and it wasn't much fun to breathe in. That gave me time to try calling Janet but couldn't get through as the lines were jammed. It settled pretty quickly and I wasn't in the mood to hang around... I had absolutely no idea of the scale of destruction across the CBD at the time. I had another surreal moment on the way back to the office, passing a giant upside-down green copper dome that used to perch atop another building that had partially collapsed. Between that and seeing the state of Colombo St on the way home, I knew we had a major disaster on our hands. I found out yesterday that the guy who owns the rest home where my mother works was killed by falling rocks. The home is in the suburb of Redcliffs, with large towering cliffs behind. They relocated all of the residents to other rest homes for safety reasons, and we have no idea what's going to happen to my mother for work. I haven't heard anything regarding my own work yet. Financially we can cope without my income so I'm not too anxious about it. Two of my colleagues have left the city for a while and a third is planning to go very soon. I've thought about flying to Wellington just so I can have a shower, but I might just wait for it to rain instead :) Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
